Maize fibre is puffy and insulating. It is obtained from renewable resources and is a good alternative for allergy sufferers, as it is washable.
Maize fibre has good heat retention – like animal hair – because it is hollow on the inside. It has a high bulking power (good recovery capacity), does not easily take on foreign odours, it is flame-retardant, is without chemical additives, and is therefore not a breeding ground for bacteria. Furthermore, it is washable and suitable for tumble-drying.
The fibre is made from a natural, constantly renewable raw material and thus takes ecological considerations into account. Compared to conventional man-made fibres, it needs only a fraction of the energy to process, so CO2 emissions, which contribute to global warming, are significantly lower. When the product reaches the end of its useful life, maize can be composted without residue. It decomposes into water and carbon dioxide, thus closing the cycle. Basically, maize combines many of the positive properties of both natural and synthetic fibres.
