Known as the ‘gold of the Andes’, this is one of the finest natural hairs in the world. It absorbs a lot of moisture, is breathable and self-cleansing.
Alpaca wool is very breathable, warming, light and mite-free. It is a dry wool that does not contain lanolin oil, which makes it highly recommended for allergy sufferers. The wool is also fire-retardant.
Through thousands of years of breeding in the Andes, the wool of the alpaca is a highly developed product. The climate of the Andes is very extreme; during the day the animals are exposed to great heat, whereas at night the temperatures become bitterly cold. To compensate for these huge temperature fluctuations, alpacas have their unique wool, which allows them to regulate heat and cold perfectly.
For the South American alpacas, the distance to a water hole can sometimes be several kilometres. For this, they have acquired a very light wool, which is dirt-resistant and breathable. In addition, their wool has the extraordinary property of wicking away moisture.
We use this highly developed wool to produce high-quality duvets. The properties that make the wool suitable for the alpacas in the Andes are also perfect for us humans:
- Lightweight
- Warming
- Allergy-free
- Breathable
- Moisture-wicking
- Fire-retardant
- Resistant to ageing
- Mite-free
- Cosy
